A few infrastructure items from around the world:

EXA Infrastructure is forging a path deeper into eastern Europe. They plan to build out fiber routes into Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. They call it Project Visegrád, and it will include metro expansions in Warsaw, Prague, Bratislava, and Berlin. The infrastructure will include HDPE ducts and 216-fiber Corning Ultra G.652D cables. If all goes well, the routes will start coming online next summer.

BDx is making moves to add more renewable energy to its mix. They have announced a strategic partnership with HEXA Renewables under which some 50MW will be able to cross the border from Malaysia to Singapore. BDx is looking to deploy 1GW across southeast Asia in the years ahead.

Nokia has a new customer for its data center operations solutions. The Swiss provider iWay has selected Nokia and its partner Kyndril for SCF and EDA technology top help modernize its data center operations. iWay focuses on residential and SMB connectivity and is looking to move to a fully automated data center network.

Altibox Carrier and Ciena have teamed up to demonstrate a 1.6Tbps single-carrier wavelength transmission across an in-service subsea cable. Altibox leveraged Ciena’s WL6e coherent optics on its NO-UK system, achieving a spectral efficiency above 9/b/s/Hz. Altibox has already deployed Ciena gear to power its 800G network.

And DE-CIX’s foray into interconnection in space is becoming part of a larger plan. The Frankfurt-based global IX operator says it plans to move deeper into connectivity to, from, and within low-Earth orbit following the StarLink/DE-CIX India announcement. They are part of the European Space Agency’s OFELIAS project to leverage laser-based communications and build out space-based interconnection at scale.
