Network news on 5 fronts from around the world.

GTT is expanding its global IP backbone across a range of markets in both Latin America and Asia. The international network service provider is leveraging strategic partnership to boost connectivity offerings and managed services. In Latin America the expansions reach deeper into Argentina, Chile, and Colombia. In Asia GTT is adding depth in China, India, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, and the Philippines.

MOX Networks is investing in some subsea capacity. They have acquired spectrum on Google’s Topaz subsea cable system. Topaz features 16 fiber pairs and 240Tbps between Vancouver and Tokyo. The deal helps connect MOX’s projects in Japan with those in the Pacific Northwest. Among other things, they are building out backhaul infrastructure to Ocean Shores WA.

RETN says it has completed a full-scale deployment of 400GbE coherent pluggable optics. The IPoDWDM deployment spans the company’s pan-European IP footprint, including hundreds of 400G pluggables and links from 300 to 950km. RETN’s infrastructure supports 75Tbps today and the upgrade will take them above 100Tbps. Meanwhile they look to save 40% on power, 55% on carbon footprint, and 15% on space.

Nokia has been busy in South Asia with both its traditional lineup and that which it acquired from Infinera. Pakistan’s Cybernet will be using their 1830 GX platform along with ICE7 coherent optics to build out a 1.2T per wavelength network. The new national backbone will connect 25 cities and deliver 50Tbps of longhaul capacity.

And Ciena picked up two deals for its Blue Planet technology in western Europe. In Switzerland, Swisscom will be modernizing its processes via Blue Planet’s Unified Assurance and Analytics. They’ll be starting with access and transport, and then moving on to mobile backhaul and B2B services. And to the north, Telefonica Germany will be using Blue Planet’s Inventory, Orchestration, and 5G Network Slicing. The upgrade is part of their NaaS and 5G modernization efforts.
