More Florida Fiber for Zayo

April 7th, 2021 by · Leave a Comment

Zayo’s expansion in Florida is entering a new phase. A couple years ago the fiber builder and operator moved to deepen its infrastructure in the state with a substantial organic buildout of beyond the 2,300 route miles of fiber it has already put in place across multiple markets.

Yesterday Zayo revealed follow-up plans to boost that total to 2600 route miles of fiber, expanding the company’s reach on the eastern coast in Miami, Daytona Beach and Palm Bay, on the western coast in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Bradenton, and in between in Orlando and Lakeland. The new fiber complements the earlier buildouts, and will serve anchor clients as well as fill things in for their wholesale business overall in Florida from lit services down to dark fiber.

Last year saw a transition period at Zayo, with new management coming in and making their mark. The zColo business was carved out and sold to DataBank, and the company has tightened its focus toward the fiber side of things. But there were lots of expansion projects like this one that have been steadily progressing regardless of other drama at the top.
