Thinking Phone Acquires Whaleback

August 13th, 2014 by · 1 Comment

The VoIP/UC side of the industry has been very dynamic lately, seeing both organic and inorganic activity on the uptick for several years.  Yesterday there was a bit more of the latter variety.  Thinking Phone Networks has announced the acquisition of Whaleback Managed Services.

The deal helps Thinking Phone build some scale in the Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) enterprise market, adding Whaleback's customer base to its own.  Whaleback serves those customers from a service center up in New Hampshire, which will continue to be their point of contact.  They're located in Portsmouth, although I'm pretty sure the unique name derives from the mountain and ski resort further to the northwest of that.

Financial terms were not disclosed, and both companies are privately held and therefore fairly opaque when it comes to figuring out revenues and such.  But it has been clear lately that the UCaaS market is becoming one of the fastest growing cloud segments, finally delivering on the promises of VoIP.
