GEN14 Vendor Bytes: CENX, Wedge, Fujitsu, Transition Networks, Ciena

Lots of news from the vendors this week, especially around Ethernet, SDN, and NFV given GEN14. Here’s a quick look a few items I learned about at and around the event:

More good news for CENX going into the holiday season. Their Cortx service orchestration has won another high profile, though also unnamed, customer contract. A Tier 1 North American wireless carrier has selected the solution to automate service assurance for its machine-to-machine offering. Not too many of those to guess from though.  Since reformulating itself as a software company, CENX has been making rapid strides.

Wedge Networks has launched its Cloud Network Defense product. Wedge has integrated both deep packet inspection and deep content inspection by taking advantage of cloud computing even as it empowers the cloud. I heard a great deal about security in the cloud at GEN14, and there is a lot going on in managed security at the moment.

Fujitsu moved further into the Ethernet space with the launch of a new set of Ethernet access and aggregation devices. Better known for the optical layer, Fujitsu hopes to make further inroads in the Ethernet world going foward.  Their design allows for a 1GbE to 10GbE upgrade with the simple swap of an SFP for an SFP+.

Transition Networks has expanded its Carrier Ethernet portfolio with the launch of a family of Network Interface Devices as well as tablet apps for its service orchestration software. The veteran (though new to my own experience) vendor is making a big push as networks make a move into the next generation of SDN-powered networks.

And upon my return, Ciena teamed up with Avaya for on-demand enterprise networking.  They’ve blended Ciena’s packet-optical and packet-networking platforms with Avaya’s Fabric Connect, and are offering it through the channel via Ronco Communications and Integration Partners.  Ciena was also quite busy with its SDN efforts at GEN14.
