Cologix Builds on Canadian Footprint, Buys Zayo IX

June 22nd, 2021 by · Leave a Comment

The data center and interconnection provider Cologix offered up an interesting update on its Canadian business yesterday. Reporting 22% growth last year in the country, the company has made a small inorganic move out in Vancouver and will be expanding its Toronto footprint.

In Vancouver they have signed a definitive agreement to purchase an interconnection facility from Zayo. The facility adds 65,000 square feet of space in downtown Vancouver at 175 West Cordova Street.  Cologix will be investing in the facility to add another 4.2MW of power.

Zayo’s presence in Vancouver derives largely from the acquisitions of Optic Zoo and Allstream. I’m not sure why they still had this IX facility in their inventory after the zColo sale to DataBank. But I believe 175 West Cordova Street was an Allstream facility and may have never been brought into the zColo portfolio, and thus Zayo has unloaded another non-core asset. They remain a customer of the facility and will be focusing more on the connectivity side of things as they are elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Cologix is expanding in Toronto as well, adding 50,000 square feet and 10MW of space to their TOR4 hyperscale data center. The facility, which is located in Markham near downtown, has diverse connectivity over to 151 Front Street where their TOR1 facility is located.
