A few interesting items from around the industry at midweek:

Ripple Fiber has kicked off another FTTx buildout in the Pacific Northwest. They have broken ground on construction in Federal Way, home to 100K people between Takoma and Seattle. It’s part of the company’s $250M project targeting 200K homes and businesses in the counties of King and Grays Harbor and follows on the groundbreaking in Ocean Shores.

Spectrum Business will be expanding its efforts in the California’s government sector. They have added managed network services to the list of services they offer state and local agencies under the CALNET contract. That will add both network management and varius unified communications capabilities from RingCentral. Spectrum Business provides fiber into the CGEN data center, cloud connectivity, ethernet, and internet services under CALNET.

Connectbase is taking aim at the connectivity ecosystem in another corner of the globe. They are teaming up with the Philippines’ provider Converge, which operates 896,000km fiber miles in the country to reach 60% of households as well as transpacific capacity. Their infrastructure will be available on the Connectbase ecosystem, making it easier for global network buyers to reach into the Philippine marketplace.

Zayo Europe is expanding its presence in Italy. They have opened a new PoP in Rome at the NAMEX internet exchange point, expanding southward from Milan and Marseille. The move brings 400GE ports and advanced DDoS protection to the region, with connectivity back to the rest of Zayo Europe’s fiber footprint.

And in the event connectivity space, BMO Stadium in Los Angeles is getting an upgrade. RUCKUS Networks, which is part of Vistance Networks, has teamed up with the Los Angeles Football Club to roll out Wi-Fi 7 at the venue. The target is better stadium connectivity generally and an immersive fan experince for 22K guests at MLS matches.
