Wednesday Roundup: Macquarie, DE-CIX, Ripple Fiber, Lightpath

Two bits of international news, some federal dollars, and another FTTx expansion project:

Macquarie Tecnology Group has picked up a hybrid A$200m investment from the Australian government. The National Reconstruction Fund Corporation is investing in the company in support of its Cloud Services and Govermnet business segment. The NRFC will become a long-term strategic partner for Macquarie as they scale next generation sovereign cloud and cybersecurity capabilities.

DE-CIX is moving deeper into southeastern Europe with a new partnership and investment. They have become a majority stakeholder in BIX.BG, an internet exchange operator based in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia. With 10 PoPs distributed around the metro area, BIX.BG has 130+ connected networks and sees peak traffic of more than 1.3Tbps. DE-CIX will look to expand the ecosystem and add cloud connectivity products.

Ripple Fiber has named a new market up in New England. They will be building out last mile fiber across Haverhill, Massachusetts, which lies on the New Hampshire border north of Boston. Ripple’s infrastructure will pass 10K homes and businesses in the city, and they will also be offering free internet service in municipal buildings and schools. Ripple announced plans to expand in Marrimack, NH a couple months ago and has projects underway in West Boylston and Holden near Worcester.

And Lightpath will be able to take aim at some more government dollars. They have been awarded a GSA Multiple Award Schedule contract, which will make it easy for federal, state, and local agencies to leverage their infrastructure. Lightpath has been expanding rapidly into new markets in recent years, moving beyond its deep NYC metro footprint into Boston, Phoenix, Miami, Columbus, Pennsylvania, and northern Virginia.
