Pilot Fiber to Buy Extenet’s Enterprise Fiber

February 5th, 2026 by · Leave a Comment

There was some interesting consolidation in the metro fiber space on the east coast today. Pilot Fiber has announced a deal under which it will take over the enterprise fiber business of Extenet Systems.

Pilot Fiber operates an extensive fiber network in New York City, primarily in Manhattan with extensions into the Bronx and Brooklyn. That network spans some 300 route miles touching more than 1k buildings and 3.5K businesses. This new deal adds a bit of depth in Manhattan, but more importantly adds fiber across the Hudson in New Jersey.

Extenet’s fiber footprint in the NY/NJ metro area connects key nodes in Manhattan with key data centers in Secaucus, Jersey City, Newark, Mahwah, and Carteret. The assets derive from their own acquisitions of Hudson Fiber Network and Axiom Fiber Systems five or six years ago. Extenet, however, hasn’t really focused on this type of fiber as opposed to venues and wireless infrastructure, so the move makes sense for them.

If all goes well, the deal should close in Q2 of this year. Financial terms were not disclosed.
