A bit of interesting M&A happened yesterday in the data center space. Novacap and H5 Data Centers have launched a new joint venture targeting the carrier hotel space under the brand HyscaleIX. And they’re starting out with the acquisition of four existing IX facilities.
Three of those facilities are being acquired from 365 Data Centers and are located in Buffalo NY, Nashville TN, and Tampa FL. For its part 365, which has another 17 or so facilities around the country, will shift its efforts more toward high density computing at its larger facilities.
The fourth facility is still unspecified, likely meaning the purchase is not quite complete yet. But it is located somewhere in the Midwest, which covers a lot of ground. All four are the main interconnection point for the market they are in, and HyscaleIX is clearly aiming at this particular niche. It’s one that in today’s AI world doesn’t get as much press.
If the name sounds familiar, Novacap and H5 already have a JV out there called Hyscale Data Centers. That one targets wholesale data centers. Operationally the two JVs are just H5 I assume, with Novacap supplying the financial muscle.
