A giant fiber deal, two relationship expansions, and some new cloud investment plans:
Meta has tapped Corning in a $6B agreement to help with its ongoing data center buildout. Corning will supply the optical fiber, cable, and connectivity technologies for META, and will be expanding its manufacturing infrastructure in North Carolina to make it happen. The fact that Meta feels the need to nail down the supply of fiber and cable reflects the vast amount of infrastructure being built right now in the AI boom.
In Canada, TELUS and RingCentral are expanding their relationship. The two are looking to leverage intelligent automation and conversational AI from RingCentral to boost the TELUS Business Connect platform. The service looks to replace traditional phone systems even more comprehensively with AI-powered cloud communications.
AXON Networks and Cassava Technologies are teaming up for AI in Africa. The two announced a strategic partnership to develop, deploy, and manage an Operator-as-a-Service platform. The deal will combine Cassava’s continent-wide network infrastructure, which is operated by its subsidiary Liquid Intelligent Technologies, with AXON’s AI-enabled network management platform.
And the Middle East may be getting some data center investment from China. The tech giant Tencent recently said that the company is actively exploring the idea to expand the list of ‘availability zones’ for its cloud. Tencent is already serving customers in Saudi Arabia.
