Uniti Wholesale says it will be building out some significant new infrastructure in the south-central US. Fresh off the consolidation of Uniti and Windstream Wholesale earlier this year, the company is looking to take on the connectivity needs of developing AI hubs across the region.
Backed by an anchor customer with a 20-year deal worth $500M, Uniti will be deploying 1,100 route miles of fiber cable between key markets. The first phase will be a 337-mile fiber build from Tulsa to Little Rock and another 145-mile route between Little Rock and Memphis. That part was already announced and should be ready later this month.
Additional intercity routes will connect Dallas, Amarillo, Haskell, and Muskogee. There are also plans for 106 route miles of metro fiber will connect Amarillo and Claude in northern Texas. The space and power upgrades will upgrade 20 ILA colo sites. These additional phases are expected to come online over the next year or two.
