Two vendor wins, a new PoP, and an investment in rural connectivity:
Nokia has picked up an FTTx deal down in South Africa. The broadband provider fibertime will use Nokia’s fiber access and IP solutions to connect 400K homes in underserved communities. It’s part of an expansion to 2M homes by fibertime over the next few years. The deal expands on an existing relationship and also includes Nokia’s Altiplano automation technologies.
Viettel has tapped Ciena for an upgrade to its optical network infrastructure. The Vietnamese service provider has deployed Ciena’s WL5e 800G coherent optics, enabling 600Gbps over 1000km spans. The company has also completed a trial of the next generation WL6e technology, enabling a 1.6Tbps over one channel.
GNM has added another point of presence in Poland. The new PoP location is at LIM DC in Warsaw, the company’s third in the country. They are already in Equinix WA1 in Warsaw, and 4DC in Katowice. The company’s Polish reach offers direct connection to Germany, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine.
Idaho’s FyberCom has a new private equity backer. Novacap has announced an investment in the service provider, giving it the resources needed for expansion. FyberCom is based in Idaho Falls in the eastern part of the state, and leverages both FTTH and fixed wireless technologies to reach into rural areas..
