Last Mile Roundup: Gigabit Fiber, Comcast Business, Gateway, Wyyerd, IQ Fiber

Five last mile infrastructure projects from around the US.

Gigabit Fiber is tapping Nokia and LightRiver to accelerate a significant network buildout in the southwest. They are looking to deploy next generation infrastructure between and within Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Phoenix, targeting hyperscalers, wholesalers and enterprises. Nokia will provide its 1830 GX optical technology, and LightRiver will help with the deployment itself.

Comcast Business has expanded its portfolio with the help of the Cisco Meraki platform. The strategic expansion will enable them to offer more secure networking options to distributed businesses around the US, combining SD-WAN, WiFi, switching, and unified threat management.

Gateway Fiber has kicked off a new fiber buildout in the city of Moorhead MN. To save you a trip to Google Maps, that’s just across the North Dakota border from Fargo on the Red River. Gateway held the ribbon cutting ceremony earlier this month, and construction is underway. Customers will start coming online in the months ahead.

Wyyerd Fiber has begun its expansion in Oro Valley AZ, a suburban area in the southeastern part of the state. The buildout in Pima County is part of a broader expansion project to and within the Tucson metro area that they have been working on all year. They also recently launched 10 miles west in Marana.

And the southeastern FTTx operator IQ Fiber has officially launched services in Charleston, South Carolina. The expansion project kicked off in February, taking the company north along the coast from its home turf in Jacksonville FL, Savannah GA, and Gainesville FL. They also have a project underway in St. Petersburg FL.
