Int’l Roundup: EXA, iBasis, Telehouse, RETN

Some fiber, some interconnection, a data center, and some transit:

EXA Infrastructure is investing in its infrastructure connecting Paris with the subsea cable hubs of Marseille. On the route where they deployed low loss G.652D fiber last year the company is increasing the fiber count. Meanwhile they are also adding diversity with a new path through Dijon. EXA is responding to hyperscale demand for capacity on a route that could have become a bottleneck.

iBasis has launched a new IPX point of presence in Tokyo, Japan. The new PoP, which will be ready in December, will be their third in APAC and 14th worldwide. iBasis recently announced the acquisition of Telstra International’s wholesale voice, IPX and messaging assets, and this move is part of their overall expansion in the APAC region.

Telehouse Europe has broken ground on a new project in London. The KDDI subsidiary is building the new Telehouse West Two facility at its existing campus in London’s Docklands. The build will cost £275m and be ready for service in 2028. The plans call for a 9 story building of total area 32,000 square meters, with whitespace of 11,292 square meters on 6 levels. Flynn Management and Construction and Jones Engineering Group will be working together to deliver the project.

And RETN has launched a new interconnection option, Flex IX. The wholesale product combines IP transit and remote IX access on a single port. The idea is to eliminate excess capacity that sits unused much of the time by making it available for transit while also providing burst capacity when needed. The offering includes access to RETN’s IX access portfolio both across Europe and in the Far East.
