An M&A, some leased capacity, some energy, and a new campus:
Cologix has made an inorganic move in Canada that isn’t in Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver. The data center provider has acquired DataHiveOne, a carrier hotel and interconnection hub in the city of Calgary. The facility hosts 30 networks and the YYCIX exchange, which facilitates regional interconnection. DataHive still has DataHiveTwo in Calgary’s downtown.
Applied Digital has leased another big piece of its planned Polaris Forge 2 Campus up in Harwood, North Dakota. They have announced a $5B, 15-year lease with an unnamed ‘US-based investment grade hyperscaler’. The deal covers 200MW of critical IT load for AI and HPC infrastructure as well as a right of first refusal for another 800MW. At full expansion the campus will be 1GW, so that option would fill it if exercised.
Aligned Data Centers has teamed up with Calibrant Energy for a next generation battery system. Calibrant will deliver a 31MW/62MWh BESS at Aligned’s campus in Hillsboro OR, enabling access to grid power ahead of schedule. Calibrant and Aligned will be looking to do the same in other markets where power from the grid is constrained pending major upgrade projects by the utility.
And Vantage Data Centers is working with OpenAI and Oracle on a new data center campus called Lighthouse. The facility, which will require some $15B in investment, will be located outside Milwaukee, Wisconsin, just to the north along the lake in Port Washington. Plans call for a closed-loop liquid cooling system, paired with local water restoration projects to minimze impacts on freshwater sources. This is part of OpenAI’s Stargate expansion project.
