Some intercity fiber news, a data center infrastructure acquisition, and some international voice security:
Segra is building some new fiber in the Carolinas. They are developing a new ‘direct inland fiber route’ between Charlotte NC and the new Myrtle Beach Cable Landing Station, passing through Florence SC along the way and leveraging Ciena’s optical gear. The idea is to add route diversity in support of hyperscalers and international carriers who are looking to take advantage of the subsea cables coming from across the Atlantic and down to Latin America. If all goes well, construction will begin this quarter and it should be ready by next summer.
eX2 has lined up a new dark fiber customer for the Arizona DOT and the Arizona Commerce Authority. Cox Communications has leased 141 route miles of fiber along I-17 in support of an E-Rate project in the northern part of the state. I-17 runs between Phoenix and Flagstaff. ADOT also has fiber and conduit on I-19 and is working on a segment along I-40W, and eX2 Technology was awarded a 20-year agreement to manage the operations, maintenance, and commercialization of the assets.
