iBasis Buys Telstra’s Wholesale Voice Biz

September 3rd, 2025 by · Leave a Comment

There was a significant bit of M&A this morning in the wholesale voice business. iBasis says it has signed an agreement to acquire the wholesale voice, mobile, and messaging assets of Telstra International.

The deal expands iBasis’s presence in the key international hubs of Hong Kong and Singapore, and brings it into Australia and New Zealand in force for the first time. In addition, they gain coverage across a swath of the South Pacific by taking over exclusive rights to provide wholesale voice services to Digicel Pacific. And of course Telstra itself becomes a long term customer of iBasis, enabling them to refocus on core businesses.

Financial terms were not disclosed. If all goes well with the relevant regulators, the deal is expected to close before the end of 2025. iBasis has been part of Tofane Global since 2019, and has positioned itself as a consolidator of this segment of the industry.
