Four metro projects from the Midwest and eastern seaboard to catch up with:
Boldyn Networks is partnering with the City of Chesapeake, Virginia which lies just south of Norfolk in the state’s southeastern corner. The plan envisions a city-owned private wireless network in support of the Chesapeake Connect initiative and smart city project. The network will help connect municipal departments, anchor institutions, and public safety nodes.
Mediacom says it has expanded its fiber network reach into Iowa’s North Rathbun Lake. Backed by the Empower Rural Iowa Broadband Grant Program, they have brought some 1,000 homes and businesses within reach. The cable operator’s fiber network now boasts 1.3M fiber miles of infrastructure.
Charlotte-based Ripple Fiber has launched some last mile fiber up in Midland, Michigan. The buildout targets some 12,000 homes in neighborhoods including Maryland Park, Dartmouth Park, and Greenfield Park. The company first entered Michigan this past spring,. and plans to open a new retail office in Saginaw soon.
And 123NET’s public-private partnership with Ottawa County, Michigan is bearing fruit. The fiber, colo, and voice provider is now connecting its first customers in the region, which sits between Grand Rapids and Lake Michigan. The project will see 325 miles of fiber added and 2,500 underserved locations passed.
