South America has a new IX option, as DE-CIX has moved into the Brazilian market of São Paulo. With a presence already in Rio de Janeiro, this will be their second market in South America overall. São Paulo is the biggest data center market on the continent, of course.
The new IX has a footprint distributed across three data centers initially: Equinix SP4, Elea SPO1, and Ascenty SP4. The first 20 customers are being onboarded already, with TBC Azion Technologies mentioned specifically. Azion supplies edge platform infrastructure for application environments with a global footprint, but with its highest density so far in Brazil.
From São Paulo, they will be able to connect directly to the rest of DE-CIX’s international IX reach, which continues to grow and now covers five continents. They have two markets each in South American and Africa now, 7 in the Middle East, 9 in North America, 16 in south and east Asia, and some 25 in their home turf of Europe. That’s 61 markets now if my math adds up. If they can just get something in Australia or New Zealand, then Antarctica will be the only continent left.
