Powerhouse, Pennsylvania Data Center Partners Team Up in Carlisle

July 16th, 2025 by · Leave a Comment

Central Pennsylvania may be getting a giant new AI-focused data center hub. Powerhouse Data Centers and Pennsylvania Data Center Partners have announced a joint venture with plans for a $15B project on 700-acres in Cumberland County, specifically in Carlisle about 20 miles west of Harrisburg and just off the PA turnpike.

If it all comes to be, Pennsylvania Digital I (PAX) will deliver 1.35GW of capacity, with expandability to 1.8GW. The hub would consist of three neighboring campuses each holding 6 data center facilities. There will also be a dedicated 450MW substation and energy infrastructure support from PPL Electric Utilities. On the network side, the campus will have direct peering with Ashburn and easy fiber reach to 17 metro networks across the region.

Unsurprisingly, the driving force behind the project is growing demand from AI-related technologies. The rise of demand from AI has certainly been breathtaking, and so is the sheer volume of data center space that will come online in the next few years in response. In this case, if all goes well they hope to have 300MW delivered by Q2 of 2027.
