A range of metro and last mile items from around the US to catch up with:
Ripple Fiber has won $2M in funding for a project in Harnett County, North Carolina, which lies between the Raleigh and Fayetteville metro areas. They will be building out the last mile to 2,800 locations in Broadway, Bunnlevel, Coats, Lillington, Sanford, and Spring Lake. The project derives from Ripple’s purchase of infrastructure assets from CloudWyze last year.
Consolidated Communications is looking to expand its Fidium fiber footprint in York County, Maine this summer. The project will reach 37,000 homes and businesses, starting this month in the towns of Wells, Ogunquit, Kennebunk, and York. Fidium first expanded into York last year and is already building out out in Old Orchard Beach.
Great Plains Communications is partnering up with Intermedia Cloud Communications to better serve its regional business customers. The deal will enable them to offer PBX and Unified communcations to customers across the region, complementing their fiber and managed services portfolio. GPC’s network spans Nebraska and reaches into another 12 neighboring states.
Brightspeed is looking to expand its last mile reach in Central Texas. Their current project will take them from 58,800 homes and businesses in Bell and Coryell Counties to 97,500. Communities on the list include Copperas Cove, Gatesville, Kileen, and Nolanville. The region lies between Waco and Austin.
And Nokia has picked up municipal deal down in Elberton, Georgia, the county seat of Elbert County and about an hour east of Atlanta near the South Carolina border. Nokia and ZCorum will be providing 25G PON technology for the city’s broadband network, touching some 10,000 households and upgrading from an existing cable infrastructure. ZCorum has been providing managed broadband to the city since 2001.
