Tuesday Bytes: Databank, Astrolight, Constellation

May 27th, 2025 by · Leave a Comment

One data center launch and two items from the orbital front after the long weekend here in the US:

Databank has opened its 5th location in the NY metro area. They have officially launched LGA3, a facility in Orangeburg in the Hudson Valley. The facility targets AI and high performance computing demand, and is already fully leased.

Astrolight has raised €2.8M to develop connectivity between down here and up there. The Lithuanian space communications company is looking to develop a laser-based communication platform for use both in space-to-space and space-to-ground optical links. It’s an alternative to RF that could provide greater data rates and more robust connectivity.

And Constellation Technologies and Operations is working with the European Space Agency on space-based 5G. The two have signed an MoU to conduct experiments in Low Earth Orbit, starting with a regenerative payload operating in the 5G mmWave band. That satellite is expected to launch next month.
