Four bits of fiber and vendor news from the US, the UK, and Germany:
OneFiber has tapped Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 Extreme technology to power its national network buildout in Germany. OneFiber is looking to build secure connectivity that leverages quantum key distribution and other next generation technologies. Their plans call for 5,500km of network reaching 300 access points. The deployment leverages Ciena’s 5000 and 8000 routers as well as 100G-400G coherent pluggable transceivers.
CityFibre has polished off the primary buildout in another key city in the UK. Their network is now ready for service in the town of Reading, which sits on the Thames to the west of the London metro area. The project started in 2020 and now spans some 1,230km of fiber infrastructure touching some 97K homes in the area.
Ripple Fiber has tapped the credit markets further to power its expansion. They have expanded their existing credit facility to $350M in an agreement led by Post Road Group. Ripple is expanding its FTTx reach across 10 states by the end of 2025, and currently passes some 170K homes and businesses. Ripple’s footprint currently touches North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Arkansas, Colorado, Michigan, and Massachusetts and has buildouts underway in four more.
Windstream Wholesale has tapped VIAVI and 3-GIS to help with fault detection. The joint solution leverages VIAVi’s remote fiber test system with 3-GIS’s geospatial abilities to figure out the location of breaks in deployed fiber networks. Faster detection means reduced repair times for Windstream’s network operation teams.
