One infrastructure M&A, and three deployment/upgrade projects from around the US:
A pile of edge data centers is changing hands. NOVA Infrastructure has acquired a majority stake in DartPoints, which operates 11 facilities across 10 markets in the Carolinas, the Midwest, and Louisiana. The deal also sees DartPoints acquiring the land under its facilities in Greenville SC, Baton Rouge LA, and Ashville NC. Astra Capital Management will hold onto a minority stake, while Orion Infrastructure Capital is on board as both lender and investment partner. NOVA and OIC’s commitments to DartPoints add up to $250M+.
Comcast Business is teaming up with its sibling Comcast Smart Solutions to boost fan experiences in Salt Lake City. They have deployed infrastructure to some 33 private suites at America First Field in Sandy UT, which is home to the MLS Real Salt Lake team and to the URFC’s Utah Royals. Comcast Business is providing the connectivity, while Comcast Smart Solutions is providing the IPTV screens and content management.
Logix Fiber Networks is adding capacity at two of DataBank’s data centers in Texas. The upgrade will boost Logix’s capabilities at both DFW1 and DFW3 in the Dallas metro area to 400G. DataBank is looking to expand its customer base among hyperscalers and of course with the AI ecosystem, and Texas is one of those hubs of interest. Logix operates 10K route miles of fiber in the state connecting 80 data centers and 3K enterprise buildings, and had already made 400G upgrades in Austin.
The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities has awarded $40M in support of last mile services to some 9K locations across the state. Recipients include both Brightspeed and Verizon New Jersey, and the areas to be hooked up lie in Atlantic, Burlington, Cumberland, Essex, Salem, Sussex, and Warren counties. The NJBIDE pilot program targets underserved communities.
And Great Plains Communications is upping its infrastructure to 400Gbps with the help of Ciena. They are leveraging Ciena’s optical, routing, and switching technologies to scale up capacity across the company’s 200 markets in 13 states from Colorado to Ohio. The infrastructure also connects 25 data centers and 650 towers.
