Cloud M&A: CenturyLink Buys Tier 3

November 19th, 2013 by · Leave a Comment

CenturyLink has struck again in the cloud/datacenter space, announcing this morning the acquisition of Tier 3. Tier 3 operates a public cloud platform which has now immediately morphed into the CenturyLink Cloud.

Of course CenturyLink already has its Savvis division for the infrastructure side of things, but this acquisition gives the company another prong to its attack. Tier 3’s vision and expertise will make up the core of CenturyLink’s new Cloud Development Center out in Seattle.

It looks a lot like the AppFog deal they did just six months ago, and is more about bringing in talent than revenue or EBITDA. The price was not mentioned, and the deal has already closed.
