Several vendor deployments, a couple new products, and a new data center out in California:

Ciena has picked up some terrestrial business over near the Persian Gulf. The Batelco Gulf Network is deploying new Ciena gear, upgrading its capacity to some 17.6Tbps. The BGN cable system connects all countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council via terrestrial fiber, and Ciena also provided the original gear back in 2017 when it was deployed.

Windstream Enterprise has expanded its UCaaS services with a new on-premises offering to increase resiliency and control. They have unveiled WINpod, which enables enterprises to move their primary data center into an on-premises cabinet which leverages XCaaS technology from Avaya and includes a cabinet, rack, servers, UPS, and labor. They are targeting it at existing customers of their Avaya-powered UCaaS solution that have 500-10,000 contact center seats and need a blended cloud network.

TierPoint has added to its suite of security services. The data center and cloud solutions provider has launched “CleanIP XDR”, a solution to enable its customers with advanced threat detection and response. The technology provides an integrated view into networks, devices, applications, and user logs while monitoring a client’s entire environment, whether it’s on-premises, at TierPoint, or in the cloud.

Link Oregon has lit up a middle-mile fiber network up in the Pacific Northwest. They have deployed technology from Fujitsu and Arista to light up 2000 route miles of fiber reaching 50 locations across the state of Oregon. The buildout leverages $8.39M in CARES Act funding, and will extend connectivity to the public and non-profit sectors across rural communities in southern and eastern Oregon.

And Equinix is doing what Equinix does – building yet another IBX. The data center giant says that its new $142M facility in Silicon Valley will open at the end of this month. Sv11 is two stories with 51,000 square feet of colo space with cross connectivity into SV1, SV5, and SV10 and an initial 1,450 cabinets of a total potential 2950 cabinets. SV11’s design enables a PUE of 1.17, leveraging Equinix’s renewable energy procurement as well as fuel cells from Bloom Energy.
