Lots of interesting news items to keep up with this week.  Here are two data center expansion projects, two network expansion projects, and an M&A worth noting, all North and South America.

EdgeConneX has unveiled a new expansion effort in six strategic North American markets. They plan to add 20MW of new capacity in Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Miami, Detroit, and Chicago. The expansion will enable EdgeConneX to meet demand for local peering, content delivery, and cloud access options out at the edge in some of its largest existing markets.

Aligned has broken ground on its latest hyperscale project. The data center builder and operator has kicked off construction of a hyperscale data center campus out in Chicago, or more precisely the city of Northlake, just south of O’Hare Int’l Airport. The first facility on the campus will be ORD-01, which will feature 520,000 square feet of space and 48MW of power. When complete, Aligned plans double that for the Chicago campus.

Telia Carrier has opened up its first PoP out in western Canada. They have moved into Cologix’s VAN2 interconnection hub out in Vancouver. Vancouver’s tech industry continues to grow, offering an attractive alternative to Seattle and Portland in the Pacific northwest. The expansion also reaches into Cologix’s VAN1 and VAN2 facilities as well as the Vancouver Internet Exchange.

Avelacom has made an inorganic move down in South America. They have acquired a controlling stake in the Brazilian IT trading infrastructure provider ITDN Ltd. The two have been working together since last year when ITDN helped enable Avelacom’s low latency route between Brazil’s B3 exchange and derivative markets in North America. ITDN will be rebranded as Avelacom, and will become the company’s Sao Paulo office.

And also down in Brazil, Seaborn Networks is adding connectivity to two Ascenty data centers. They are hooking up Ascenty’s São Paulo and Vinhedo facilities, providing the 350+ tenants there direct access to their Seabras-1 submarine cable system with connectivity to North America.
