Lots of news to catch up on before the short week prior to Thanksgiving. The European datacenter specialist maincubes is teaming up with the Dutch service integrator Intergrid. The two are teaming up to meet the digital transformation needs of European enterprises, with maincubes offering the infrastructure out of its Amsterdam AMS01 facility and Integrid taking care of the IT services. The target will be the Benelux countries.
Hurricane Electric has decided its global network needs another node in Frankfurt, Germany. They have deployed their sixth PoP in the European hub, moving into ITENOS’s Frankfurt FRA1 location at 90 Kleyerstrasse. ITENOS’s facility has some interesting financial customers like the European Central Bank and the German stock exchange. HE’s network continues to grow around the world, and now boasts an even dozen PoPs in Germany.
Orange Business has been busy adding some SD-WAN business alongside SITA. The two have implemented a multi-tenant edge SD-WAN platform at over 60 airports around the world, putting tenants of multiple types on the same infrastructure in a secure manner. SITA’s AirportHub is deployed in 600 airports around the world, and this upgrade seems likely to make it into more of them. The list currently includes Sydney International Airport, Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, and Zurich Airport.
Telstra this week launched a new effort aimed at the financial markets, called the Telstra Octagon. Basically they are leveraging their global subsea footprint to offer low latency connectivity to trading floors in eight markets across the US and APAC. Eight markets, Octagon, might be hard to rebrand that if they add another market perhaps? Telstra’s footprint in the Pacific includes, but is not limited to, the Pacnet assets it acquired a few years back.
And back here in the US, DataBank has announced another upgrade project. They have broken ground on MSP3, the company’s third data center in Minnesota. It will be located to the north of Minneapolis in Brooklyn Park on 14 acres of land they bought this year from Scannell Properties. The first phase will be an 86,000 square foot facility aimed for September of 2021. Phase 2 will add another 170,000 square feet of space.
