Wednesday Bytes: DQE, Cyxtera, Blue Planet, Fusion

Here’s a midweek summary of some other news items worth noting:

DQE Communications has hopped onto the SD-WAN bandwagon. With its regional network centered on Pittsburgh, DQE serves both carriers and enterprises across a wide swath of Pennsylvania and bits of Ohio and West Virginia. They are moving to meet growing SD-WAN demand from the enterprise market with a new managed product that can work as an overlay to existing networks or use all new connectivity.

Cyxtera Technologies is expanding its reach over in Europe. They have opened a new data center in Amsterdam via a lease of 29,000 square feet and 3MW power from CyrusOne’s AMS1. The new location in Polanen Park will come online in the first quarter of 2020. Cyxtera also expanded its CXD on-demand platform to both that facility and Frankfurt as we.

Ciena has added a new solution to its Blue Planet portfolio. Blue Planet now offers an automated Inventory and Network Synchronization service, enabling service providers a better view on their available resources when it comes to planning, ordering, and troubleshooting. The solution interfaces with other OSS systems and helps to increase inventory accuracy.

And Fusion now has some new leadership. Kevin Brand has been elevated to the role of president, COO, and interim president. The company filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection back in June, and Brand will be the one to shephard the company through the process while it searches for a new CEO, while former CEO Matthew Rosen stays on as BoD chairman and former President and COO Russell P. Markman continue to advise the company.
