Four interesting items from midweek worth keeping an eye on:

Megaport has expanded its virtual routing services. The Megaport Cloud Router now enables private, on-demand connections out of 19 metro areas on four continents and into and between over 130 cloud on-ramps globally. They are targeting the service at hybrid and multi-cloud solutions.

Four months after its acquisition of IX Reach, BSO says that it has successfully integrated the assets together. BSO’s network now has a deeper US metro presence, additional connectivity into South Africa, Russia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydney, more cloud on-ramps, and a significantly broader ecosystem.

The SEA-ME_WE-5 cable system got an upgrade from Ciena, according to an announcement this week. The upgrade gives them 100% more capacity between the markets of Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Capacity per wave was boosted to 300Gbps, lowering the cost per bit substantially.

And INAP’s Ubersmith division has won a new convert. Avalo Networks has picked Ubersmith’s software-as-a-service platform to power its next generation VoIP services. By elminating capex and providing a pathway to managing customer data, Avalo has been able to scale its 4-year-old business quickly.
