Friday Bytes: Cisco, DataBank, MICE, Megaport, CyrusONE

I’ll be back from my road trip with the start of next week, but in the meantime here’s some jobs news from a heavyweight and a couple of quick takes from the data center and interconnection space to end the week:

According to Fierce Telecom, Cisco is tightening its belt with some layoffs.  Filings show the company let 462 people go out of their San Jose and Milpitas locations in California between the end of July and Tuesday of this week.  The industry giant indicated growth headwinds from the US/China trade war amongst other things and lowered guidance in its recent earnings call.

DataBank has added some new interconnection options to its ecosystem out in the Midwest. They have connected up with the Midwest Internet Cooperative Exchange (MICE) in Minnesota with the help of Minnesota VoIP. In addition to connectivity to each other and to the cloud, their customers will also have access to the Seattle Internet Exchange, IX Denver, and the Kansas City Internet Exchange.

And Megaport’s reach has expanded into another data center, this time in Europe. CyrusOne is building on its existing relationship with Megaport in the US by deploying the latter’s services at its London I data center in Slough. The data center provider’s tenants will be able to access Megaport’s interconnection ecosystem, both to each other and to destinations in the cloud
