A few more items worth keeping an eye on:

Some more infrastructure is changing hands down in the southeast according to a recent announcement.  TruVista has signed an agreement to be acquired by iCON Infrastructure.  TruVista serves consumers and businesses around four counties each in South Carolina and Georgia.  CEO Brian Singleton will continue to lead the existing management team, so not much will change initially other than ownership.  But this seems to be one of iCON’s first moves in the telecommunications space, so there may be more to follow.

FirstLight provided an update on its expansion projects in the state of Vermont earlier this week. Over the past year the company has built out an additional 250 miles of new fiber, giving them 1,500 route miles in the state and putting 3,500 buildings within close proximity of their footprint. They are also now offering managed firewall, managed router, and encrypted wavelength services to customers in the state.

The Southeastern data center operator DC BLOX has won a key new contract with MARTA, the public transit operator in Atlanta. MARTA is using DC BLOX’s colocation and network services for a disaster recovery solution. It’s a multi-year deal for 100kW of critical IT load in Chattanooga with connectivity back to DC BLOX’s facility in Atlanta. We had DC BLOX CEO Jeff Uphues here for an Industry Spotlight just a few weeks ago.

Orange Business Services has tapped Riverbed to bring Visability-as-a-Service to market. They are using Riverbed’s SteelCentral Aternity technology, which puts performance monitoring on the end-user’s device. The international law firm Simmons & Simmons is one of the first to try the service, supporting a major IT software upgrade. Orange Business continues to fill out its managed services portfolio with new capabilities.
