Thursday Bytes: QTS, CenturyLink, Epsilon, DE-CIX

As everyone watches the Huawei soap opera roll on, here’s some other news to keep up with:

QTS has made a green move, announcing today an agreement to buy some renewable power. It’s a 10-year deal with Rio Bravo Wind with the help of Calpine Energy and Citigroup Energy that will purchase power equivalent to QTS’s consumption in Chicago and Piscataway. QTS plans to go 100% renewable by 2025, and this is the path many data center operators have chosen to get to such a goal.

CenturyLink has added another Ethernet arrow to its quiver. Yesterday the company unveiled MEF CE 2.0-certified multipoint-to-multipoint E-LAN services. The new services give CenturyLink’s Ethernet portfolio additional options, especially when connecting multiple locations across multiple regions, and can be configured via SDN.

Epsilon says it has achieved Amazon AWS Service Delivery designation for AWS Direct Connect. That will let the company provision hosted connections to AWS in excess of 500Mbps and up to 10Gbps. Epsilon continues to add capabilities to its Infiny SDN platform.

And DE-CIX has a new partner down in Spain. With the help of Aire Networks, their DE-CIX Madrid IX will be able to reach into Barcelona, Alicante, Sevilla, Granada, Malaga, and other Spanish cities. Aire Networks runs a 27,000km network in the country.
