Great Plains Communications to Buy InterCarrier

May 17th, 2019 by · Leave a Comment

Great Plains Communications is making a move to the east via inorganic means. Yesterday they announced a deal to aquire InterCarrier Networks.

InterCarrier Networks is a regional operator with network across Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and the St. Louis MO metro area. In all, its rings span 2,037 route miles mostly to the east of Great Plains Communications’s footprint centered on Nebraska. When combined, the two footprints will stretch 11,500 route miles.

Great Plains Communications is a portfolio company of Grain Management, which has been quietly building an infrastructure portfolio. Last year they bought a controlling interest in WANRack, a growing E-Rate specialist.

Assuming all goes well, the deal is expected to close in Q3. Financial terms were not disclosed.
