There has been a lot of bandwidth news out of Italy lately, and yesterday it was Retelit’s turn. The network operator, once strictly an Italian concern, has both upgraded and added to its international connections, declaring itself to now be a ‘global operator’.
Retelit has turned up new routes across the Atlantic. Leveraging the Apollo cable system, both north and south legs, they have added a public peering node in New York city. For now the purpose is to bring US content on-net before it goes transatlantic, but there are plans to make the presence a full multiservice PoP.
A new PoP is what they now have in the Far East though, in Hong Kong. Retelite has also added bandwidth on its routes between Frankfurt and Hong Kong (via TEA-4 across Russia) and between Hong Kong and Singapore (on the AAE-1 cable which reaches back to Frankfurt via Bari and Milan as well).
