Int’l Bytes: IX Reach, Avelacom, Orange

Three interesting items touching on three continents:

IX Reach is adding another geographical market to its footprint. The interconnection provider has selected Djibouti Data Center as a strategic hub for its expansion into Africa. From Djibouti they can access the major cable systems that extend southward along the east coast of Africa.  DDC sits right next door to the cable landing station, making it a logical interconnection point for the whole region.

Avelacom is adding more depth to its global infrastructure with a new PoP in the Far East. They are opening a new location in Tokyo, moving into the AT TOKYO Premium Colocation Space, their third so far in the city. Avelacom says it has been seeing double digit growth rates in the APAC region, and the new space will enable them to better serve the latency-sensitive financial clients they specialize in. Three months ago the company launched a new ultra-low-latency route between London and Tokyo and also added a PoP in Equinix’s Tokyo facility.

And late last week Orange made an inorganic move to further flesh out its portfolio. The French-based global provider announced the acquisition of SecureData Group and its subsidiary SensePost. SecureData’s expertise, 200 employees, and annual revenues of €50M will expand and reinforce Orange’s cybersecurity portfolio, giving it greater penetration into the English-speaking community. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
