Three interesting expansion projects worth noting from the start of this week:
Cyxtera is expanding its Extensible Data Center offering to additional markets. The CXD platform is now available in London and Washington DC, with New York, Chicago, Silicon Valley, and Phoenix on deck. The object is to apply on-demand automation to the provisioning of colo, providing more hybrid alternatives to pure cloud solutions.
Nokia has been helping Telecom Egypt to boost its network capacity. Telecom Egypt is upgrading the company’s Nokia 1830 PSS deployment on its regional Delta backbone network with a 500G DWDM Muxponder, a process they started back in June. The result is what the two bill as the first 200G long distance, single carrier transmission service in Africa. I went looking for what exactly the Delta backbone network consists of but came up empty, but I’m guessing it’s the Nile River Delta region – it’s Egypt after all.
Megaport has another partner up in the rapidly growing hub of Montreal. eStruxture has partnered with the network-as-a-service provider to expand its ability to connect customers to cloud destinations such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Salesforce, IBM, Oracle, Alibaba, and on from there. eStruxture operates three facilities in Montreal, and another out in Vancouver.
