Wednesday Roundup: WANRack, Windstream, Macquarie

Three bits of expansion news, one fiber, one fixed wireless, and one colo:

WANRack has expanded its footprint into another state. The E-Rate specialist has picked up a K-12 WAN deal with the Lake Geneva school district in Wisconsin. They will be delivering 10Gbps to each school in the district, with the ability to upgrade to 100G when they are ready. WANRack entered nearby Illinois a few weeks ago as well, and now has a presence in 18 states.

Windstream is bringing its fixed wireless business to a new, hard to reach market. The company has deployed the necessary infrastructure to hook up 900 locations in Poteau, Oklahoma with speeds up to 100Mbps. Poteau lies near Oklahoma’s eastern border with Arkansas, which is a long ways from anywhere by most measures.  When fully built out, that number will rise to 8800 locations. The expansion is part of Windstream’s efforts toward the FCC’s Connect America Fund initiative.

And Macquarie Telecom Group says it will be significantly expanding its data center campus at Macquarie Park outside of Sydney, Australia. The plan is to expand its capacity from 10MW to 26MW in phase 1 for what it is calling IC3 East, and soon thereafter another 17MW for IC3 West. The first phase will cost some $75-80M, mostly in 2019. Keppel DC REIT will fund some of that, entering into a 20-year lease with options to renew.
