Thursday Roundup: Exponential-e, Hurricane Electric, O2, EdgeConneX

August 16th, 2018 by · 4 Comments

Three from around the world and one from the front range:

Over in the UK, Exponential-e has picked up a high profile enterprise customer. They have struck up a relationship with Virgin Atlantic, becoming one of the airline’s Network Guardians. That’s a fancy way of saying that Exponential-e will be helping to power Virgin Atlantic’s network and cloud infrastructure across multiple locations around the world. The new arrangement expands on an existing relationship between the company and Virgin Holidays.

O2 has become the latest carrier to be fascinated by networking via light bulbs. The UK division of Telefonica said yesterday that it is trialing LiFi technology in the ‘Explore Room’ of its Slough headquarters. LiFi uses visible light from LEDs to create a wireless network between buildings within line of sight, transmitting data by varying the brightness. pureLiFi is helping them figure out what they might do with the technology.

Hurricane Electric has added another point of presence to its global IPv4/IPv6 backbone. The new PoP is in HKCOLO’s facility in Hong Kong, its third node within the key Chinese port city. HE has been steadily adding depth to its footprint since Ramblings started, taking an almost exclusively organic route to growth.

And back in the USA, EdgeConneX has another interconnection partner. IX-Denver has expanded its neutral internet exchange into the company’s edge data center located in Englewood. The regional provider FORETHOUGHT.net provided the switch and connectivity between IX-Denver’s Champa Street location and EdgeConneX’s facility. IX-Denver now has four nodes in the metro area.
