Wednesday Bytes: Akamai, Interoute, Interxion, Nuage

May 10th, 2017 by · 3 Comments

I’m on the road for much of the next few weeks, if I miss anything I promise to catch up!  Here’s a quick rundown of some news from the last 24 hours or so that is worth a look:

Akamai has made a move to offset its energy appetite in Texas with a bit of wind power. They have invested in the Seymour Hills Wind Farm, which is under construction about 150 miles west by northwest of Dallas. Akamai is making a 20-year investment in the project, which upon completion will produce some 80MW via 38 wind turbines on some 8,000 acres. Akamai hopes to source 50% of the energy for its global network operations from renewable sources by the end of the decade.

Interoute has a new partner on the big data front. They are teaming up with iFusion Analytics, a provider of integrated big data as a service. The partnership pairs Interoute’s Virtual Data Centers with iFusion’s iBDaaS (these -aaS acronyms seem to be expanding rather alarmingly) to offer analytics at the edge and thus help enable enterprise business decisions.

Interxion has made another cloud option available to its colo customers. City Networks’ City Cloud has joined the company’s Cloud Connect platform, making its OpenStack-based public infrastructure available to enterprises via a new route. The offering is out of PoPs in Interxion’s Stockholm, London, and Frankfurt campuses.

Nokia’s Nuage Networks landed a big multinational networking customer. They have announced a partnership with Telefonica through which Nuage’s Firtualized Network Services technology will power Telefonica’s next generation SD-WAN services. The initial rollout will be in the second half of 2017 in Spain, with other markets to follow. It’s hard to find anyone who doesn’t see SD-WAN services as the next big thing in enterprise networking.
