Ad Tech Company Taps Zayo

December 13th, 2016 by · 4 Comments

Zayo announced another connectivity win with a global enterprise yesterday. As has been their pattern for much of this year, the actual enterprise is un-named, but the bandwidth is real enough.

A ‘global ad tech company’ has picked Zayo for both dark fiber and wavelengths. Ad tech is big data these days, and it needs big pipes.  Zayo will be providing 100G waves connecting data centers in both Europe and the US as well as metro dark fiber in northern California between a data center and a key office location.

Zayo is busy on the inorganic front with the purchase of Electric Lightwave, it’s biggest US move in a while that adds a substantial amount of intercity and metro fiber in the western US. But today’s ad tech win highlights the company’s growing international value proposition, with the former Viatel backbone providing the necessary reach into European markets.  I still expect them to make further moves over in Europe to extend into additional markets.

Does anyone else find it odd that Zayo makes these one-sided press releases? I haven’t seen anyone else do that. I think having the customer commit to the press release is what gives it substance, so it’s noteworthy that they didn’t, which for me is indicative that they are perhaps not entirely satisfied with their solution.

The reason for this is that some deals, especially with Cloud and Carrier customers is that they don’t want people to know their fiber routes. Some is for security purposes some is so competition doesn’t know routes and tries to use them to their advantage. For what its worth.

Bob very well put. I worked at Zayo for little over a year and was part of the Abovenet merger. I left not because I was unhappy (really a good place to work with great folks) but rather what I call the fog of war (merger). It is the only regret I have in my professional career and while I may be a tad bias, they are a fast, very nimble provider with able body employees that provide the level of support you might now see with the larger carriers.
