Metro Bytes: Wilcon, UPN, ColoAtl

January 28th, 2016 by · 1 Comment

Back from MetroConnect, here are a few metro stories I had missed in the chaos that are worth noting:

Out in sunny southern california, Wilcon has been busy this winter expanding its network. They have built out their network infrastructure in West Los Angeles, hooking up the Pacific Television Center on Motor Avenue among other things. PTC will use the improved access to increase distribution of its content, which includes those awards shows everyone gets so excited about this time of year.

Out on the prairie, Unite Private Networks continued its ongoing fiber and Ethernet-based conquest of the Nebraska enterprise market. They are helping out Anderson Industrial Engines with Ethernet Private Lines connecting five locations including another one in Omaha, as well as an intercity EPL between Omaha and Kansas City.

And down in the Southeast, Colo Atl has another fiber tenant at ist 55 Marietta Street. Southern Fibernet has built into the facility where it will find easy interconnection to the 80+ other network operators in the facility’s Meet Me Area and the SNAP internet exchange. Southern Fibernet is looking to bring FTTH to residential and commercial subscribers in Atlanta and central Georgia, taking on the incumbents and cable MSOs.

Usually I’m excited about circuit upgrades, but if they’re going to use it for those award shows I’m not sure I can attain that level of excitement. Perhaps I may even go the other way and be disappointed if they’re not going to do something more useful with it.
