TNCI, Impact to Merge

November 6th, 2015 by · 3 Comments

In addition to the two network M&As this week, yesterday we saw some more consolidation in the VoIP/UC world.  TNCI and Impact Telecom have announced a definitive agreement to merge.

Both companies have been part of the ongoing consolidation funnel in recent years.  Blue Casa bought the TNCI business back in 2013 after it emerged from Chapter 11, and soon thereafter bought Pac-West to go with it.  Meanwhile, also in 2013, Impact Telecom acquired Matrix, which itself had acquired Excel, Trinsic, and the SMB business of Global Crossing.

Both TNCI and Impact have a long history in the CLEC and channel world, but today live in the cloud communications and UC domains.  The merger will combine Impact’s Feature Group D network and IP backbone with TNCI’s access network reach, assembling a broader overall portfolio.

TNCI CEO Laura Thomas (formerly of XO) will become chairman of the board, while Impact CEO Bob Beaty will continue on as CEO of the combined company.  The transaction is expected to close in January 2016.  Financial terms were not revealed.
