Vendor Roundup: Coriant, Xtera, Infinera, Transmode, MRV

Next, here’s a roundup of some vendor news that’s worth a look:

Coriant and Teliasonera have been busy testing 400G over in Europe. They’ve announced a successful field trial on 1,634km of fiber between Paris, Luxembourg, and Frankfurt on which they put a mix of 100G, 200G, 300G, and 400G using QPSK, 8QAM, and 16QAM on SSMF fiber and EDFA amplification in a variety of scenarios. That sounds like a lot of work just keeping all the acronyms straight, let alone the various light packets.

Under the waves, Xtera has deployed its first nextgen repeater. The HUGO system, which supplies capacity to Guernsey, Jersey, and the Isle of Man via a repurposed, previously decommissioned cable, had become limited by high loss. Xtera’s new Raman systems were able to work with the older systems and fiber to solve that problem.

Infinera has continued its assault on the datacenter interconnect space with another product expansion in their Cloud Xpress family. They unveiled a new 100GbE-capable platform aimed at hooking up clouds. Infinera is increasingly looking to put its superchannels to work along the high capacity routes between the data centers in the biggest metro areas.

The Swedish operator Transmode, which Infinera is in the process of buying, has also launched a metro transport expansion. They unveiled PT-Fabric, a new high-density and low-power switch that aims to use 100G to take metro bandwidth up to terabit levels.

And MRV has picked up a 100G deal with T-Mobile Czech Republic.  The two will be teaming up to provide communications for an unnamed global package delivery company.  MRV’s OptiDriver gear will be hooking up branch offices and facilities across the region.
