Here’s a quick look at some interesting news from the data center world over the past few days.

The colo provider BYTEGRID has made an inorganic move into the cloud services world. Yesterday they announced the acquisition of Sidus BioData, which offers turnkey HIPAA/HITECH compliant hosting services out of Annapolis, Maryland. The deal gives BYTEGRID a foot in the door in the healthcare vertical as well as three data centers. It’s BYTEGRID’s second M&A of 2015 already, following January’s purchase of a facility out in metro Chicago.

CoreSite has a new channel with which to reach enterprises. They’ve signed a distribution agreement with Lifeboat Distribution, which will add CoreSite’s data center services to their disaster recovery portfolio. VARs of all sizes have been getting closer and closer to the colo infrastructure world of late, and are becoming an important part of the ecosystem.

Open-IX certified two key US internet exchanges last week. AMS-IX became the first IX to get certified across multiple markets with its exchange out in the San Francisco Bay Area getting the nod.  And DE-CIX followed up its MOU with Open-IX last month by completing OIX-1 certification at its New York City exchange.  Not that either was particularly in question, as each has been a part of this shift in the space from the start.

Telx has a new cloud xchange ecosystem partner from the cable MSO world. WOW! Business has signed on, hooking up within the Telx facilities in Atlanta and New York City. WOW! Business has been increasingly aggressive in the SMB and enterprise spaces over the past year or two.

And just this morning, Global Capacity added a high profile cloud connection.  They’ve been approved as a Google Cloud Interconnect service provider, offering enterprises direct connectivity via their One Marketplace ecosystem.  Global Capacity recently bought the wholesale arm of MegaPath, giving it a much broader direct reach.
