Finishing MegaPath Purchase, Global Capacity Goes National

Global Capacity has followed through with its transformational purchase of MegaPath’s Network Services business unit, closing the deal this morning. With a $300M revenue base and assets reaching deep into some 2000+ central offices around the country, the company has come a long, long way since its acquisition by Pivotal Group three and a half years ago.

globalcapacity-national-networkThey also bring on board some 300 additional employees and actual trucks to roll, and a national network map for us to look at (left). They’ll be very busy with the integration for the near future, but I suspect MegaPath may not be their last inorganic move.

Who else might they buy? I’m thinking there may be other access and aggregation footprints that would add to Global Capacity’s One Marketplace offerings that CLECs making the transition to the cloud and managed services might like to unload. Who knows, they might even be interested in a bit of fiber in their diet as well.  Broadview perhaps?

As for MegaPath, they will keep on rolling but on the cloud and managed services side, no longer encumbered with the operation of a wholesale network business.  Just how they will use that new freedom of movement is another question.  They may very well also partake of some M&A, but of the cloud services variety.
