Google’s Cloud Gets a Few Official Connectivity Partners

November 6th, 2014 by · 2 Comments

The Google Cloud Platform became the latest of the major clouds to get some public connectivity attention. Yesterday four partners officially began offering direct access to Google’s cloud, one data center specialist and three fiber operators.

Equinix’s Cloud Exchange is indeed an obvious place to connect up to Google’s platform, and so the fact that Google has now hooked up there isn’t a surprise. Equinix will be offering up to 10Gbps connectivity to Google’s cloud from some 15 markets around the world.  And of course Level 3 and Zayo being the two largest raw fiber options out there, the fact that both are in the mix is no surprise either. Both are now offering Google Cloud Interconnect, Zayo via its Connect to the Cloud program, and Level 3 through its Cloud Connect Solutions ecosystem.  Also joining the party yesterday was Tata Communications and its new IZO ecosystem.

Connecting everything that will need to reach into and between the various clouds and applications out there is going to be a huge project that will take the rest of this decade.  Hopefully it’s also a big opportunity of course.
