tw telecom Launches In Philly

August 12th, 2014 by · 8 Comments

With a launch yesterday, tw telecom has taken its network expansion campaign to Philadelphia at last. It’s a brand new market for tw telecom, starting to fill in what had long been perhaps the biggest hole in the company’s national coverage — the entire state of Pennsylvania.

tw telecom network maptw telecom is now offering service at Amerimar at 401 North Broad, Digital Realty at 833 Chestnut, Tierpoint at 4775 League Island Blvd, and Xand at 1000 Adams up in Norristown.  And of course they’ll surely be hooking up enterprises directly as they build out further into the Philly metro area.

The expansion is powered by more of that Zayo dark fiber they leased late last year.  Zayo’s Philadelphia presence has been one of their biggest ever since the PPL Telcom acquisition way back in 2007, and owes much of its breadth to infrastructure built out by Sunesys actually.

Launches in two other new markets (Boston and Cleveland) are still on the way.  With their Philadelphia market now live, Boston (and New England in general) seems like the last big regional gap left to fill.  tw telecom is pushing onward with its existing expansion plan prior to its planned acquisition by Level 3 in a couple months or so.  The combined network assets of the two companies should make for an interesting viewing.

I would give it 6 months after the acquisition is done, before the pace of 3-500 building adds per quarter slows to about 20-30/Q.

Lit buildings sound great , but the MRR amount is $300.00 and my quote is WHAT????? I feel sooooo lucky.

You might wish you were that lucky after the 4th AT&T loop outage because you were too fucking cheap to think about network as a critical piece of your IT and not a box of paper that your admin buys online between visits to facebook.

Geez, no wonder the network business is in the toilet.

Why don’t you tell us how you really feel?

Totally agree. Most CIOs, IT Directors, Network Analysts are too enamored with LANS, servers, “the cloud”, and apps to worry about their MANs and WANs. They believe all fiber based services are automatically protected and thus should failover within milliseconds. Of course, this logic or lack thereof leads to further price compression in the industry since they are unwilling to pay the true price for protection. What a bunch of nincompoops.

You missed the mark of the point. If you are a sales person and you have a $3000.00 plus per month quota each month , $300. or $400.00 per month in lighted buildings is not what I would go after. Thats not worth my time.
