GlobeNet Adds Dark Fiber Up the Florida Coast

GlobeNet is coming ashore down in Florida, adding dark fiber to its submarine cable and Brazilian terrestrial footprint. They have tapped Allied Fiber for the new infrastructure between Miami and Jacksonville, as well as colocation and interconnection services. Two legs of their submarine cable network hooking up North and South America land on the south Florida coast.

TRImage_197 Jul. 11Allied Fiber just completed its new intercity buildout of dark fiber, conduit, and colo between Miami and Jacksonvile a few weeks ago. They have long been making the case that there needs to be a long term, infrastructure buildout around the country that can make neutral dark fiber easily and economically available to service providers of all sizes. It has taken a while for them to convince the money folks of the business case, and this deal with GlobeNet will be a helpful illustration for funding the next leg.

The next step of Allied Fiber’s buildout will of course bring Atlanta to the table as well, which is a bigger bandwidth destination although Jacksonville has definitely been on the rise lately. One can envision GlobeNet being interested in dark fiber all the way up the east coast to New Jersey too, giving them a terrestrial loop connecting both of their landing stations and direct connectivity to locations like Ashburn, Charlotte, Baltimore, and Philadelphia along the way.

It is really satisfying working with a great group of folks at GlobeNet, and two people who deserve recognition for their efforts in this project are Yuri Vazquez and Patrick Blesso…this is just the beginning and similar projects are on their way…

Allied has been making a lot of noise about Jacksonville. Is there anything there people want to get to?

  • John Danko says:

mhammtt-there are few things to get to in JAX, including Submarine cable systems, Carrier Hotels, Meet Me Rooms, Municipal networks, Government networks, Carriers, Service Providers, ILEC networks, Research & Science, Higher Education, Healthcare, enterprise networks, etc….what will make this even more compelling will be the completion of the Allied Fiber system up to Atlanta…
